Hermione watched as Draco Malfoy toyed with the sleeve of his shirt, wondering what was causing him to look more uncomfortable than usual. His trademark sneer had turned to a grimace, and his typically impeccable robes were slightly disheveled.

"What are you looking at, Mudblood?" He’d caught her looking.

"Nothing," she replied, and turned back to her parchment. She continued to watch, shocked, through the veil of her hair. Malfoy took a glance around the room and then gingerly pulled back his sleeve to reveal his swollen forearm; the Dark Mark had been burned there, dark against his pale flesh.

Disclaimer: If I were J.K. Rowling, canon!Draco would have given me more to work with. In any case, I did what I could.
Notes: Written after searching all night for good Draco/Hermione darkfic that I hadn't already read. I finally gave up and decided to write my own; this is what came out of it. I'd like to point out that I've got a 3,000 word paper due in two days and I've got 0 words for that, but I just managed this 2,600-word fic in about an hour. Fandom is so much easier than politics. Also, I wrote this with the Phantom of the Opera original cast recording as background noise, if you'd like something for mood.

He smashes the mirror against the wall and grinds his shoes against the shards of glass that fall to the floor. His cheeks are streaked with angry tears that don’t register with him; his teeth are grinding together with fury strong enough to crack and chip painfully at the enamel.

His room is in a sorry state of disarray, the broken pieces of his two-way mirror shining up from the floor like diamonds in the rough.

An angry sob - "Sirius" - parts his clenched teeth and his anger quickly turns to sadness. He wishes he hadn’t broken the mirror.
